Four states and Washington, D.C., have legalized marijuana for recreational use. Legalization may be on five ballots in November, including in California, the largest state in the country.
East Baton Rouge Parish remain divided over legalization, but more were for it in 2016 than in two previous years. We saw this pattern with same-sex marriage; the idea gained support each year until a majority were for it two years ago.
As expected, young people are for legalizing marijuana, old people are against it. Fifty-eight percent of 18- to 29-year-olds favor legalization, only 19% of residents over 65 were in favor.
